Ella Solin is our 19th Athlete to speak to us about making the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships Team. Members of the Spark Team will compete in Eugene (USA), from July 22nd to 27th 2014.
How did you get involved in Athletics?
I got involved in athletics when I was 10 years old. My cousins started first and they really enjoyed it. So my mum decided to sign up my sister and I. I have loved it since then.
When you first heard that you made the team, what was your initial reaction?
When I first heard that I had made the team I was very happy. I had been chosen to run in the 4×400 relay team in Barcelona at the previous world juniors and since then had been aiming for an individual event for these world junior champs in Eugene. When I was chosen to run in the 400m hurdles and the 4×400 relay I was so relieved And super excited as this is what my coach and I had been aiming for!
Are you doing anything differently in preparation for this competition?
These last two years Leading up to the worlds I have been training harder then ever before. Therefore My coach and I have been especially focusing on my recover to prevent any injuries leading into the championships.
What are you most looking forward to about the trip to Eugene (USA)?
I am most looking forward to travelling with the team and being able to compete against world class athletes!
Who has been your biggest inspiration in this sport?
My biggest inspiration would have to be Cathy freeman. She was such an amazing runner!
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become a professional Athlete?
You have to enjoy competing and training to get the most out of yourself as an athlete!
