Ryan Gregson is Australia’s current record holder for the men’s 1500m. He competed at the London Olympics where he made it through to the semi finals. Ryan has been generous with his time and agreed to answer questions for us.
Lachlan – How did you get involved in athletics?
Ryan Gregson – My big sister and I did swimming club on a Friday night when I was 4 and she was sick of being cold from getting in and out of the water. Mum and Dad decided that little athletics would be a better fit for a Friday night and it all went from there.

Lachlan – What advice would you give to someone who is looking to start to dedicate more time to athletics?
Ryan Gregson – All the 1%’ers add up.
Lachlan – I remember listening to yourself and Collis Birmingham talking to up-and-coming distance athletes at Falls Creek over the 2012 / 2013 New Year. You spoke about your experience at the London Olympics. Looking back on these games, did your expectations of what they would be like match the reality of them?
Ryan Gregson – No. I was looking forward to a good result but I tore my calf 100m into the 1st round and it all went bad from there.
Lachlan – You currently hold the Australian record for the 1500m. How surreal of a feeling was it when you got this? Did you ever dream of achieving a title such as this?
Ryan Gregson – I always thought that I would get the record but I didn’t think it would come so soon. It was a great night in Monaco and I’m blessed that things fell together at the right moment.
Lachlan – To finish off, what is your goal for the upcoming season?
Ryan Gregson – My goal is to come back from from a bad last 3 years and start dancing again after races.
