Joshua Connolly is our 12th Athlete to speak to us about making the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships Team. Members of the team will compete in Colombia, from July 15th to 19th 2015.
How did you get involved in Athletics?
Have been mucking around with high jump since I was 13, never took it serious but, was purely just for fun. Then just over a year ago my parents dragged me to athletics training with my younger sister. The coach asked me what I was doing in July 2015, decided that worlds sounded like fun, so I set the goal and have been working and training to make this team ever since.
When you first heard that you made the team, what was your initial reaction?
Absolutely stoked, then immediately shared the news with family and friends.
Are you doing anything differently in preparation for this competition?
Taking it a bit more serious and really focusing more on what I need to improve.
What are you most looking forward to about the trip to Colombia?
The whole experience really, just the thought of going up against the best in the world amazes me and just cant wait to get over there!
Who has been your biggest inspiration in this sport?
Steve Solomon, he has achieved so much in both athletics and academics by just working hard and believing and I aspire to uphold some of those traits.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become a professional Athlete?
Give it a shot, its never to late to start. If you really want it and work hard, nothing is impossible.
