SBS is reporting that Marathoner Jeff Hunt has submitted an appeal after his non-selection into the Australian Track and Field Team for the Rio Olympics in the Marathon.
The 33-year-old had the fifth fastest time at the conclusion of the marathon selection period. He was behind reining Commonwealth Games champion Michael Shelley who has the fastest qualifying time of 2:12.20. Liam Adams (2:14:58) and Scott Westcott (2:15:30) were nominated by Athletics Australia to fill the two remaining vacancies.
Hunt, who ran 2:16.09 in mid-April at the Hamburg Marathon, will plead his case before an independent tribunal in the next few weeks after not receiving one of the three selection places.
The Lisa Weightman, Jess Trengove and Milly Clark were all announced today, but the men’s team cannot officially be announced by the Australian Olympic Committee until Hunt’s appeal process is completed.
He will first plead his case to a three-man independent panel, with the final stage being a potential hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
