Andrea Thompson is our 2nd Athlete to speak to us about making the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships Team. Members of the team will compete in Colombia, from July 15th to 19th 2015.
How did you get involved in Athletics?
I started doing athletics in under 6’s at Queanbeyan little athletics. Mum took me because she was sick and tired of me being competitive and wanted me to get beaten, unfortunately didn’t quite go to plan for her.
When you first heard that you made the team, what was your initial reaction?
I was just so happy and relived that I had to sit down. Then called mum and dad.
Are you doing anything differently in preparation for this competition?
I’ve started doing some form of training six days a week compared to the usual three.
What are you most looking forward to about the trip to Colombia?
I’m really looking forward to the warm weather.
Who has been your biggest inspiration in this sport?
Bronwyn Thompson, she was the national junior coach 2 years back when I was in the squad and I learnt so much.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become a professional Athlete?
If it makes you happy, go for it. You have nothing to loose.
