Kurtis Marschall is our 24th Athlete to speak to us about making the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships Team. Members of the Spark Team will compete in Eugene (USA), from July 22nd to 27th 2014.

How did you get involved in Athletics?

I started little aths when I was 6 and got the opportunity to try pole vault after doing well in that! And loved it ever since

When you first heard that you made the team, what was your initial reaction?

Omg was over the moon! It was a lunchtime at school, I ran like a girl to tell mum who works at me school and told her the news!

Are you doing anything differently in preparation for this competition?

I have tried to keep things similar! I am following the same sort of plan that I did over Christmas up until  junior Nats! It’s working fine for now! So keen to start competing again.

What are you most looking forward to about the trip to Eugene (USA)?

The atmosphere of the competition! The people I will meet! And the friends and connections I will make!

Who has been your biggest inspiration in this sport?

Surgey Bubka; pole vault outdoor world record holder!

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become a professional Athlete?

Work hard, never look back because you may trip and fall! Look forward and remember “perfection doesn’t come from doing extraordinary things it comes from doing simple things extraordinarily well!”
