Maddie Coates is our 5th Athlete to speak to us about making the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships Team. Members of the team will compete in Eugene (USA), from July 22nd to 27th 2014.
How did you get involved in Athletics?
Through my mum cause she did it as well when she was younger, she also had a lot of access.
When you first heard that you made the team, what was your initial reaction?
I was really overwhelmed and didn’t believe it a first.
Are you doing anything differently in preparation for this competition?
Not much just a bit more intense sessions and working a bit more in the gym. Also doing more endurance running sessions.
What are you most looking forward to about the trip to Eugene (USA)?
Getting the chance to run against the best of the best.
Who has been your biggest inspiration in this sport?
Usain Bolt
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become a professional Athlete?
Train hard to get the success you crave.
Even though you get bad days look forward to the good days cause they come around more often!
Always be a good sport weather you win or lose!
Don’t get down on yourself if you don’t win because it’s good to have someone better than you cause than you have more motivation and drive to become the best.
