The 2015 World Youth Championships have started, with Ned Weatherly being the first Australian athlete to compete. After two rounds, Ned was sitting in 13th position with a throw of 17.62m and a foul. Looking to improve upon his performance, he stepped into the ring and chucked a 18.31m with his final throw. Ned finished 26th overall, which will mean that he will not progress to the final in the Shot Put. His attention will now turn to the Hammer Throw, which is on tomorrow.

Next on the track was the men’s 100m heats. Jack Hale and Jordan Shelley are our two competitors, both posing a real threat to the rest of the competition. Hale finished second in his heat with a time of 10.66 seconds, and Jordan finished 3rd with a time of 10.84 seconds. Both athletes qualify and move into the semi finals.

Samantha Peace would be celebrating after finishing 3rd overall with an equal personal best throw of 48.14m in the qualifying round of the discus throw. She now moves into the final which is later in the day.

Victorian athlete Danielle Shaw has qualified for the semi finals of the 100m hurdles, after placing 3rd in her heat, with a time of 13.69 (-0.1 m/s) seconds.

Western Australian athlete Clare Gibson equaled her personal best in the qualifying round of the High Jump, with a clearance on her third attempt of 1.80m. Her result qualifies her for the final, which is taking place in two days time.

New South Wales athlete Louis Stenmark has impressed onlookers with a solid win in his heat of the 400m. His time 47.17 will mean he has automatically qualified for the semi final of the event.

Queensland athlete Darcy Roper has managed to completely flip the competition around from round one to two. After fouling in his first attempt, Roper was in last place, before his second attempt leap of 7.88m moved him into first position, and qualifies him for the final.
